[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Korea Arts Creation Academy announced on the 8th that it will hold 'Next Generation Battle 2021!', where the final works of next-generation artists can be seen until February next year.
The Korea Arts Creation Academy is an integrated next-generation artist support project that succeeded the Korea Arts Council's Next Generation Artist Development Project (AYAF), Opera Creation Academy, and Stage Arts Academy. It enhances the creative and planning capabilities of artists in various fields and supports the expansion of materials, realization of ideas, and networking programs.
In particular, it provides opportunities for interaction with fellow artists and allows participating artists to carry out creative activities in their desired themes and methods. The program includes lectures and workshops by artists active in various fields during different periods, followed by mid-term presentations and mentoring processes, culminating in a final presentation. It is divided into four fields: literature, visual arts, performing arts, and platform realization support, with 39 of the most notable next-generation artists participating this year.
In the literature field, a total of eight artists were selected: three poets ▲Kim Geon-yeong ▲Seo Hojun ▲Yuk Hosu, and five novelists ▲Koo Hyekyung ▲Kim Ji-yeon ▲Kim Hong ▲Park Gangsan ▲Jung Eunwoo. An anthology is scheduled to be published in March 2022.
In the performing arts field, a total of 20 artists were selected: five in the multidisciplinary category ▲Kang Haneul ▲Kim Jisoo ▲Moon Sujin ▲Seo Sanghyuk ▲Jin Narae; five in theater ▲Kim Minju ▲Son Seongyeon ▲Lee Kyungeun ▲Jo Ara ▲Hwang Yutaek; four in music ▲Lee Dabin ▲Lee So-ui ▲Lee Jungmin ▲Jung Jieun; four in dance ▲Kim Sowol ▲Kim Hwanhee ▲Yoo Jiyoung ▲Lim Jeongha; and two in traditional arts ▲Kim Sanguk ▲Jo Hoon. They will perform with various different themes.
In the visual arts field, a total of six artists were selected: four writers ▲Kim Changjae ▲Park Hyeongjin ▲Lee Daeun ▲Han Woori, and two curators ▲Park Yujin ▲Lee Mina. In the platform realization support field, five artists were selected: four planners ▲Kim Minsu ▲Kim Bomi ▲Seo Sanghyun ▲Lee Doha, and one stage artist ▲Kim Jiwoo, who will present their works.
The first work to be presented is the dance performance 'New-Etude Project' by choreographer Lim Jeongha in the performing arts field, which will be held on the 16th and 17th at the Daehakro Arts Theater Small Theater. Choreographer Lim Jeongha mainly deals with stories about nature, machines, and humans. The New-Etude Project began from the choreographer's contemplation on the attitude toward movement. It involves deconstructing movement, finding its archetype, and exploring what it is and what can be done with it.
From the 19th to the 21st, Son Seongyeon's play 'We Are Crazy!' will be held at the Eum Art Hall. This work attempts an essential approach to resolving the hatred and oppression present in our society through the portrayal of people with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and panic disorder.
Director Moon Sujin's multidisciplinary art performance 'Gwangyeom Sonata' will be held on the 20th and 21st at Theater Song. Director Moon Sujin focuses on how to interpret various cases where the ethics and artistry of artists fail to harmonize, presenting an audience-participatory multidisciplinary art performance. The audience becomes the character 'Mo' in the work and participates in the performance. Depending on Mo's choices, the content of the conversation with K changes on a small scale, and the entire work changes on a larger scale.
In December, planner Kim Bomi's 'Convenience Store of the Future "Blue House"' in the platform realization support field will be held on the 5th, 11th, and 12th. Artist Kim Bomi will experiment with street art in the post-COVID era by implanting an alien space in the middle of the street under the concept of a convenience store of the future.
More detailed information about the profiles and works of the artists participating in 'Next Generation Battle 2021!' can be found on the Korea Arts Creation Academy Instagram channel and the Korea Arts Creation Academy networking platform. The networking platform will provide detailed monthly work information through the publication of an online program book.
