[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Major domestic conglomerates such as Samsung are beginning full-scale efforts to nurture young digital talents. The goal is to train 3,100 talents annually. The government expects that with the participation of large corporations, the employment creation effect of 'K-Digital Training,' which offers vocational training courses in digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, will increase significantly.


The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training announced that they have selected the vocational training programs of four companies?Samsung, SK Hynix, KT, and POSCO?as training courses under the 'Digital Leading Companies Academy' and began recruiting trainees from the 25th. The Digital Leading Companies Academy is a new type of training attempted within K-Digital Training, a digital and new technology vocational training program, based on the 'Public-Private Cooperation Software Talent Development Measures' and the 'Second Half Economic Policy Direction.'


Trainees will receive support for training fees as well as separate monthly training incentives through the National Tomorrow Learning Card. They can also receive employment support provided by each company upon participation and completion. The National Tomorrow Learning Card is a training fee support system available to anyone who applies either by visiting a nearby employment center or through the vocational training portal website. Following the amendment of the 'Enforcement Decree of the Worker Vocational Competency Development Act' on the 17th of last month, the issuance target has been expanded from university graduates to those in their third year of university or with less than two years remaining in their studies.


The four companies plan to nurture 3,100 talents annually through five training courses selected this time. KT will recruit trainees from the 25th to operate the training course starting in December. Samsung is recruiting trainees to operate the 7th cohort of the Samsung Youth Software Academy (SSAFY), scheduled to start in January next year. POSCO plans to recruit trainees from the end of the year to open a training course in February next year. SK Hynix plans to open training courses and recruit trainees in the first half of next year.
