[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 29th that it held a completion ceremony for a Korean-style smart farm pilot greenhouse in Almaty, Kazakhstan on the 28th.
The completion ceremony was attended by Kim Jong-gu, Director of Agricultural Life Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Karashkeyev Erbol Sirakpaevich, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, among others.
The greenhouse was built as part of the "Smart Farm Package Export Promotion" project, which the Ministry has been promoting since last year. This project supports the overseas expansion of excellent domestic smart farm equipment, personnel, and technology by establishing pilot greenhouses and dispatching experts.
The installed greenhouse covers an area of 1 hectare (ha) and was designed to prevent condensation and inflow of runoff water, considering the local climate characteristics of heavy snowfall and rainfall. With the greenhouse installation, it is expected to contribute to the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers, and high value-added crops such as strawberries, as well as to the activation of agricultural product sales and distribution.
The government plans to enable Kazakhstan National Agricultural University to utilize the pilot greenhouse and provide Korean smart farm technology education to local university students and farmers.
Director Kim said, "We expect that the completion of the pilot greenhouse will activate the advancement of K-agriculture into the New Northern region."
