Prosecution Files Re-Appeal Against Bail for Former Komatrade CEO Lee Jun-seok

[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] The prosecution has filed a retrial appeal against the release of former Komatrade CEO Lee Jun-seok, a former member of the Seongnam-based 'Gukje Mafia-pa,' who was tried on charges of operating an illegal internet gambling site.

According to the legal community on the 28th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office filed a retrial appeal to the Supreme Court earlier this month, stating that it could not accept the bail decision for former CEO Lee.

The prosecution stated, "The defendant was sentenced to a heavy prison term of 7 years in the first trial and has shown no remorse so far," adding, "Since he has a base overseas, there is a risk that he may flee abroad while on bail and disappear to avoid a heavy sentence."

Meanwhile, former CEO Lee, who has been implicated in allegations of involvement with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, was indicted on charges including operating an illegal gambling site and was sentenced in the first trial on October 2019 to 7 years in prison, a fine of 5 million won, and a confiscation of 4.18 billion won.
