[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President Kim Ki-seon) Korean Culture Technology Research Institute (Director Jeon Mun-gu) will conduct a "Museum Guide Korean Sign Language Translation Pilot Service" for the hearing impaired at the 1st floor Asia Ceramic Culture Room of the National Gwangju Museum (Director Lee Soo-mi) from the 26th to November 7th.


According to GIST on the 25th, the Korean Culture Technology Research Institute signed a business agreement with the National Gwangju Museum and is currently promoting a pilot project necessary for developing an AI-based cultural infrastructure service platform technology for the hearing impaired.


For sign language translation services provided to the hearing impaired, a sign language database for cultural infrastructure was established, and based on the 3D motion correction technology developed by GIST Korean Culture Technology Research Institute, accurate sign language motion data collection and implementation were successfully achieved. This outcome was verified through the pilot service.


Jeon Mun-gu, director of the Korean Culture Technology Research Institute, said, "The pilot service conducted at the National Gwangju Museum aims to develop technology to provide universal services so that the hearing impaired can enjoy cultural activities such as museums, art galleries, and exhibition facilities," adding, "We hope that through various cultural services, everyone can enjoy culture without exclusion."


Meanwhile, the GIST Korean Culture Technology Research Institute is carrying out numerous projects including Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism designated cultural technology R&D policy tasks, cultural heritage utilization immersive content, AI-based art convergence creation, and media facade mapping technology, focusing on core cultural technology R&D to drive the development of the national cultural industry.
