[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] A broadcasting accident occurred during a live news broadcast on a local TV station in the United States, where explicit content was aired for about 13 seconds.
According to foreign media reports such as Newsweek on the 19th (local time), the local TV station KREM in Spokane, Washington, aired explicit content on the screen while delivering the weather forecast around 6:30 PM on the 17th.
When meteorologist Michelle Voss, who was conducting the broadcast, started the forecast via video connection, explicit content showing a woman's lower body was played for about 13 seconds on a small monitor installed behind Voss.
Anchor Cody Proctor, who was co-hosting the broadcast with Voss via video connection, continued the weather forecast without stopping while the video was playing. They appeared to be completely unaware of the broadcasting accident.
Regarding the broadcasting accident, KREM apologized during the 11 PM news on the same day, stating, "Inappropriate footage was aired at the beginning of the broadcast," and added, "We will make efforts to ensure this does not happen again."
The Spokane Police Department stated, "We are taking measures against the broadcaster that exposed inappropriate images during the broadcast," and added, "The Police Department's Special Victims Unit (SVU) and Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU) are investigating the source of the images and the circumstances of the broadcast. The investigation is ongoing, and responsibility has not yet been determined."
