Apple's 'iPhone 14' May Increase Maximum Storage Capacity to 2TB

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are speculations that Apple will double the maximum storage capacity of its next-generation smartphone, the ‘iPhone 14’ series.

On the 2nd (local time), IT specialist media GSM Arena reported that Apple may expand the maximum storage capacity of the iPhone 14 series to 2 terabytes (TB).

It is not clear which specific model will have its storage capacity expanded to 2TB, but considering that the recently released ‘iPhone 13 Pro’ and ‘iPhone 13 Pro Max’ models have a maximum capacity of 1TB, these two models are expected to be the targets for the capacity increase. The base model and mini model are expected to increase from 512GB to 1TB.

GSM Arena speculated that Apple’s reason for further increasing the maximum storage capacity of next year’s iPhone is due to the increased storage requirements when using new camera features. To record ProRes video at 4K resolution and 30FPS on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models, at least 256GB of storage space is required, and the 128GB version is limited to 1080p 30FPS ProRes video.

Meanwhile, the new smartphone ‘iPhone 13’ series, which began pre-orders on the 1st and is scheduled for official release in Korea on the 8th, consists of four models just like its predecessor: ▲iPhone 13 (6.1 inches) ▲iPhone 13 Mini (5.4 inches) ▲iPhone 13 Pro (6.1 inches) ▲iPhone 13 Pro Max (6.7 inches).

Since its unveiling, concerns about sluggish sales due to a lack of innovation have been raised, but initial stock is quickly selling out mainly through unlocked sales channels as soon as pre-orders started.

The storage capacities and prices for this series are as follows: the base iPhone 13 model is priced at △128GB 1,078,000 KRW △256GB 1,221,000 KRW △512GB 1,485,000 KRW, and the ‘iPhone 13 Mini’ is priced at △128GB 946,000 KRW △256GB 1,078,000 KRW △512GB 1,355,000 KRW.

The iPhone 13 Pro is priced at △128GB 1,342,000 KRW △256GB 1,474,000 KRW △512GB 1,738,000 KRW △1TB 1,991,000 KRW. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is priced at △128GB 1,474,000 KRW △256GB 1,606,000 KRW △512GB 1,870,000 KRW △1TB 2,145,000 KRW.
