The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on this day, 2,248 new cases were added, bringing the total confirmed cases to 316,020.
The number of new cases decreased by 238 compared to the previous day (2,486), and compared to a week ago on the 25th of last month, when there were 3,271 cases, it decreased by 1,023.
On the 25th of last month, the highest number of cases since the domestic COVID-19 outbreak was recorded due to the impact of the Chuseok holiday.
Despite implementing high-intensity social distancing measures for 12 weeks (Level 4 in the metropolitan area, Level 3 in non-metropolitan areas), the government extended the current distancing measures for two more weeks until the 17th, as the spread has not subsided.
Accordingly, the usage time restrictions for multi-use facilities such as restaurants and cafes in the metropolitan area remain until 10 PM, and private gathering restrictions allow up to 4 people before 6 PM, and after 6 PM, unvaccinated individuals are limited to 2 people, while gatherings including vaccinated individuals can have up to 6 people only at restaurants, cafes, or homes. In non-metropolitan areas, gatherings of up to 8 people are allowed.
However, as vaccination progresses, the number of people allowed at weddings, first birthday parties, and outdoor sports facilities has been adjusted to focus on those who have completed vaccination.
The 4th wave, which began in early July, has continued for three months without showing signs of slowing down.
With cluster infections continuing nationwide, the daily confirmed cases have remained in the four-digit range for 88 consecutive days since July 7th (1,211 cases).
Regarding the infection routes of new confirmed cases on this day, 2,221 were locally transmitted and 27 were imported cases. Among the local cases, the metropolitan area accounted for 1,656 cases (74.6%), including 785 in Seoul, 757 in Gyeonggi, and 114 in Incheon.
In non-metropolitan areas, Gyeongnam had the highest number with 106 cases, followed by Daegu with 80, Chungbuk 58, Gyeongbuk 55, Chungnam 48, Busan 42, Daejeon 35, Gangwon 33, Gwangju 25, Jeonbuk 23, Jeonnam 22, Ulsan 19, Sejong 11, and Jeju 8, totaling 565 cases (25.4%).
