Seongbuk-gu 2022 Living Wage Hourly Rate 10,702 Won

Increased by 10,504 KRW, 1.5% from this year...Same as 2021 Seoul Living Wage, decided considering inflation and district financial conditions

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) confirmed the 2022 living wage at 10,702 KRW per hour on the 17th after deliberation by the Living Wage Deliberation Committee.

The Seongbuk-gu Living Wage Deliberation Committee stated that this decision was made by comprehensively considering next year's minimum wage announced by the government, price levels, average wages of workers, and the district's financial conditions.

The 2022 Seongbuk-gu living wage is 1.5% (162 KRW) higher than this year's hourly rate of 10,504 KRW, and 16.8% (1,542 KRW) higher than next year's minimum wage of 9,160 KRW announced by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. When converted to a monthly salary (based on 209 working hours per month), it amounts to 2,236,720 KRW, which is 33,710 KRW more than this year's 2,203,010 KRW.

The living wage decided this time will apply to approximately 730 direct and indirect hired workers of Seongbuk-gu and its affiliated and invested institutions, as well as private consignment workers, making it the second largest number among Seoul's autonomous districts.

The Seongbuk-gu living wage was first implemented nationwide in 2013, taking the lead in guaranteeing a humane life that allows workers to provide education for their children and maintain a minimum cultural life.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “There are many challenges for the living wage to address, such as closing the gap with the minimum wage and expanding the application of the living wage to the private sector, but I hope that the living wage for Seongbuk-gu decided by this committee will provide some support to workers struggling due to COVID-19.”
