Park Wan-joo "Media Arbitration Act, Expecting Bipartisan Agreement on the 28th... Consensus on Activating Corrections and Rebuttal Reports"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Park Wan-joo, the Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 28th that he expects the amendment to the Media Arbitration Act to reach an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties on the same day.

On the morning of the same day, Chair Park held a press briefing at the National Assembly and said, "I have a cautious expectation that an agreement on the Media Arbitration Act will be reached within today."

Chair Park said, "There seems to be some level of agreement regarding the activation of correction reports and rebuttal reports," adding, "Although the specific provisions are not finalized yet, it is quite meaningful."

He added, "The punitive damages system and the right to request blocking of access, which had disagreements, are still under negotiation," and "It seems that the process of reaching an agreement on the right to request blocking of access is ongoing."

He continued, "The remaining issue is punitive damages, and discussions are underway on how to handle it," adding, "I hope an agreement will be reached today, but if not, there is time until tomorrow, so we are negotiating with the hope of processing it within the September National Assembly session."
