Retired Navy Captain and Army Lieutenant Colonel Subject to Employment Restrictions at Defense Science Research Institute

Government Public Officials Ethics Committee Announces Employment Review Results for Retired Public Officials... 4 Cases Denied Employment Approval

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] A retired Navy colonel and an Army lieutenant colonel from the Ministry of National Defense and the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, respectively, have each received a 'employment restriction' decision from the Agency for Defense Development.

The Government Officials Ethics Committee announced on the 27th that it disclosed the results of employment reviews related to 39 retired public officials who requested employment screening on the 17th on the Public Ethics System website.

The Ethics Committee decided that 3 cases, where a close business relationship was recognized between the department or agency to which the individual belonged during the 5 years prior to retirement and the prospective employer, were subject to 'employment restriction.' Four cases were determined as 'employment disapproval' because they did not meet the legal criteria for employment approval. For 3 cases where employment was undertaken without prior employment screening by the Ethics Committee, a request was made to the competent court to impose fines.

A former Army lieutenant colonel from the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, who retired in September, attempted to be employed by the Agency for Defense Development in October but received an employment restriction decision. A Navy colonel from the Ministry of National Defense, who retired in April and September respectively, also attempted to be employed by the Agency for Defense Development in October but received an employment restriction decision.
