[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, stated, "I have never hated the rich."

Today (the 25th), Hong wrote on his Facebook, along with the slogan "Freedom for the rich, opportunity for the common people," that "This is the slogan that runs through the 'Hong Joon-pyo spirit,' following the last presidential election." He added, "Even though I lived a difficult life, I have never hated the rich like Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province."

Hong recalled, "I also wanted to live a life that others would envy through hard work," but "No matter how hard I tried, my family could not escape the shackles of poverty that I faced as a child," and "Once fallen into the abyss, I could not get out." He continued, "That is why I wanted to create a country that endlessly provides opportunities for the common people to rise again."

He also pledged, "A country where the rich can consume freely without worry and live like the rich as long as they pay their taxes properly," and "A country where the common people can endlessly have opportunities to rise anew with the help of the state, where justice flows like a river. I want to create such a country once." He concluded his post by saying, "An advanced Republic of Korea where everyone lives well together?that is the Korea Hong Joon-pyo dreams of."
