Jeju Police Report 32% Decrease in 'Serious Crime Reports' During Chuseok Holiday Period

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Reports of major crimes significantly decreased during the Chuseok holiday period in the Jeju area.


The Jeju Police Agency conducted a "Comprehensive Security Operation for the Chuseok Holiday" for a total of 10 days from the 13th to the 22nd.


As a result, a total of 4,216 112 emergency calls were received during this period, representing approximately a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year.


In particular, reports of major crimes such as murder and robbery among the 112 calls numbered 125, a 32.4% decrease compared to last year.


Efforts to prevent recurrence included monitoring 322 households at risk of repeated domestic violence, resulting in 66 related reports, a 17.5% decrease.


Traffic-related reports, including traffic violations, increased by 7.5% to 416 cases, while there were no fatal traffic accidents or major traffic accidents.


Cases of violations of COVID-19 quarantine rules were also detected consecutively.


On the 19th, the Jeju Police received a report of an illegal entertainment bar operating in an officetel located in Yeon-dong, Jeju City, and upon dispatching officers to the scene, they found the entrance door partially open and apprehended five people including the owner and employees.


On the 18th, a PC room owner and 25 customers were caught violating quarantine rules for exceeding business hours.


A Jeju Police Agency official stated, "We conducted the comprehensive security operation for the Chuseok holiday to prepare for various crimes arising from economic difficulties due to COVID-19 and family conflicts."


He added, "As a result, we maintained overall peaceful holiday security and will continue to do our best for the safety of residents."
