[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, expressed that the issue of shifting the burden of proof to doctors to prove their innocence regarding operating room CCTV can be resolved reasonably. Hong also revealed his plan to abolish medical graduate schools and revive medical colleges.

On the 8th, Hong visited the Korea Medical Association located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and held a meeting with Lee Pil-soo, president of the Korea Medical Association, and other association officials. At the meeting, Hong commented on the passage of the "Operating Room CCTV Installation Act," saying, "I am concerned that all doctors might be treated as potential criminals," and added, "It is reasonable to establish a regulation that shifts the burden of proof in medical malpractice lawsuits to doctors proving their innocence."

Regarding concerns that medical staff might avoid performing surgeries on critically ill patients or provide passive treatment due to issues like CCTV installation and malpractice, he pointed out, "Doctors should not be allowed to avoid surgeries on critically ill patients."

After the meeting, Hong told reporters, "I sought opinions on campaign promises such as abolishing medical graduate schools and reviving medical colleges, and the Medical Association was also positive."

On medical issues such as telemedicine, he said, "Regarding telemedicine, since it is an issue that cannot be reversed by the times, the Medical Association should conduct research in a positive direction from the perspective of public health."

Meanwhile, Hong also expressed gratitude to doctors dedicated to responding to COVID-19. He said, "The COVID-19 pandemic is sweeping through the political landscape, and doctors are working hard. Without their help, this (COVID-19) cannot be controlled," adding, "I am grateful for the efforts of doctors in the Republic of Korea."
