[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are speculations that Samsung Electronics may unveil its next flagship smartphone, the ‘Galaxy S22’ series, much sooner than its predecessor.
On the 7th (local time), IT specialized media SamMobile reported that Samsung Electronics might release the S22 series within this year.
Samsung Electronics has launched new Galaxy S series models before March for the past several years. Last year, the release of the ‘Galaxy S20’ series was slightly advanced to February 11, and this year, the ‘Galaxy S21’ series was unveiled on January 14, a month earlier than that. SamMobile mentioned rumors that the S22 series will enter mass production in November, which would mean Samsung’s S22 announcement should take place sometime in December.
One reason for this is the need for an active response to Apple, which is also introducing a new iPhone series. Apple sent out invitations to the media on the same day, announcing a special event at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, USA, on the 14th (local time) to unveil new products. The iPhone 13 series is expected to consist of four models, including the base model iPhone 13, ‘iPhone 13 Mini,’ ‘iPhone 13 Pro,’ and ‘iPhone 13 Pro Max,’ similar to its predecessor.
Another cause cited is the absence of a new ‘Galaxy Note’ series in the second half of the year. This year, Samsung Electronics did not release a Galaxy Note series and only introduced foldable smartphones under the ‘Galaxy Z’ series to the market. SamMobile explained, “Although foldable phones are breaking sales records in the market, the figures do not match those that the existing Note lineup could have brought.”
Meanwhile, the S22 series is expected to be released in three models: the base model, Plus, and Ultra, with sizes of ▲6.06 inches for the base ▲6.55 inches for the Plus ▲6.81 inches for the Ultra. Previously, the S21 series was released with sizes of ▲6.2 inches for the base ▲6.7 inches for the Plus ▲6.9 inches for the Ultra. The application processors (AP) mentioned are Samsung’s ‘Exynos 2200’ and Qualcomm’s ‘Snapdragon 898.’ In particular, the Exynos 2200, developed together with AMD, is expected to have significantly improved performance with its new graphics processing unit (GPU).
