[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunjin Jung] LG Electronics announced on the 25th that it will introduce a cloud-based remote medical consultation solution for use in hospitals. This remote consultation solution is based on a multi-party video conferencing platform and can be used for remote consultations for inpatients and outpatients as well as at large-scale academic conferences.
The solution integrates with hospital systems individually established by each hospital, such as Electronic Medical Records (EMR) that record patient information like medical history and admission/discharge records, or Hospital Information Systems (HIS). Being a cloud-based service, it allows access from outside without location restrictions.
LG Electronics developed the remote consultation solution through technical collaboration with EasyCareTech Co., Ltd., a domestic digital healthcare specialist. EasyCareTech recently signed an export contract to supply this solution to over 70 clinics under the Saudi Arabian Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA). Domestically, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital uses this solution for ICU monitoring and non-face-to-face collaborative treatment.
LG Electronics is focusing on hospital-related businesses in response to the increasing demand for non-face-to-face medical care and the expansion of the telemedicine market. According to the Korea International Trade Association, as preference for non-face-to-face medical care increased due to COVID-19, the global telemedicine market size is expected to rapidly expand from $61.2 billion in 2019 to $559.5 billion by 2027.
LG Electronics aims to target the hospital TV market by leveraging its integrated solution supply capabilities that combine software with its existing display business, such as commercial TVs. LG Electronics operates a lineup of hospital TVs in various sizes that can be installed within hospitals, including 65, 55, 49, 43, 32, and 24 inches. It has also released a 15.6-inch personal TV for inpatient beds with touch functionality.
Hospital TVs provide necessary functions for hospitals and visiting patients based on LG’s proprietary software platform webOS, such as hospital introduction, facility guidance, and remote help requests. Hospital administrators can create customized home screens unique to their hospital, making it usable even for small and medium-sized hospitals without their own systems. All TVs connected to the same network can be controlled at once, making maintenance and management convenient.
Baek Ki-moon, Executive Vice President of LG Electronics’ ID Business Division, said, "We will continue to lead the commercial display market by leveraging our integrated solution supply capabilities optimized for installation spaces and purposes, from hardware to software."
