[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Doosan Yeon-gang Foundation announced on the 6th that it has selected Professor Kang Ji-hoon of the Department of Cardiology at Seoul National University Hospital as the winner of this year's Doosan Yeon-gang Academic Award in the medical paper category, awarding him a prize of 30 million KRW and a plaque.

Professor Kang authored a paper presenting the potential of a new antiplatelet therapy method during the chronic phase treatment period after coronary intervention, which was recognized for its achievement after being published in the international medical journal The Lancet in May.

The paper contains findings that 'clopidogrel monotherapy' (antiplatelet therapy to prevent thrombotic complications after coronary intervention) performed on patients after cardiovascular intervention can reduce both thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications, suggesting it as an alternative to the existing aspirin monotherapy.

Meanwhile, the Doosan Yeon-gang Academic Award in the medical paper category was established in 2006 to encourage the enthusiasm of young medical researchers contributing to the development of domestic medicine, and this year marks its 16th anniversary.
