According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters on the 5th, the number of patients stung by bees last month was 150, a 50% increase compared to the same month last year.

In particular, 85 patients were stung by bees while engaging in outdoor activities at places such as the sea, rivers, mountains, and fields.

The fire authorities analyzed that the increase in bee sting incidents is likely due to more people going hiking and camping outdoors?areas that are relatively less crowded and well-ventilated?because of the spread of COVID-19.

The National Fire Agency issued a nationwide "Bee Sting Incident Warning" on the 30th of last month.

To prevent bee sting incidents, it is advised to reduce skin exposure by wearing long clothes, gloves, and hats, and to avoid using cosmetics and perfumes that may provoke bees.

Also, during outdoor activities, it is better to avoid foods or drinks with strong scents and to stay hydrated with water or cucumber.

If a bee approaches closely, do not provoke it; either move away calmly or stay still and lie down in a low posture.

A fire official urged, "If you find a beehive, do not attempt to remove it forcefully; promptly report it to 119." He added, "Since September is a busy season for grave trimming visitors, special caution is needed to prevent bee sting accidents."
