[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Kim Ki-hyun, the floor leader of the People Power Party, who marked his 100th day in office, emphasized more definite 'change' and 'innovation.'
On the 5th, Kim held a press conference at the National Assembly to mark his 100 days in office and stated, "For our party to become a party loved by the people, we must pursue more definite change and innovation," adding, "We will continue to lead painful change and innovation alongside the people who are suffering from the 'Kkondae (old-fashioned), conservative, vested interests' forces, to judge the Moon Jae-in administration and achieve regime change."
Kim was elected on April 30th. He is the second floor leader of the 21st National Assembly's People Power Party, succeeding former floor leader Joo Ho-young.
Kim cited the opposition party regaining the chairmanship of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee as one of the achievements during his 100 days. He emphasized, "The formation of the National Assembly in the first year of the 21st National Assembly's first half was an outrage that violated the basic principles of democracy. We normalized the 'abnormal National Assembly,' which began with the ruling party's seizure of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chairmanship, through new negotiations on the formation of the Assembly," adding, "With determination and conviction that we would not be sidelined, we united the hearts of the People Power Party lawmakers and ultimately achieved the result that the People Power Party would take the chairmanship of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee in the second half."
He also highlighted leading party unity for regime change as a strength. Kim explained, "I led a successful party convention and, as floor leader, played a central role in helping the 36-year-old, first-term party leader and the party leadership to stabilize quickly," adding, "I kept the floor leader's office door wide open to allow lawmakers to demonstrate their expertise and political skills, strengthening communication and dialogue, which I believe was one of the factors that enhanced party unity."
Additionally, he regarded strengthening the practical role of the Policy Committee and prioritizing people’s livelihood as achievements of the 100 days.
He also focused on 'regime change' through next year's presidential election. Kim said, "With a more sincere attitude, I will give hope to the people and do my best to lead next year's presidential election to victory for the recovery and leap forward of the Republic of Korea."
