[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A 'Maker Space Specialized Lab' that provides customized services for each growth stage from prototype development to startup support will be established in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province.

On the 29th, the province announced, "Gangwon Information and Culture Promotion Agency, located in Seomyeon, Chuncheon City, was finally selected for the 'Maker Space Specialized Lab Construction and Operation Project' announced by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing 7.5 billion KRW in national funding."

The 'Gangwon Maker Space' plans to invest a total project cost of 10.7 billion KRW over up to five years (2021?2025) starting this year, and it will be available to residents interested in manufacturing and startups, including companies, university students, prospective entrepreneurs, and youth.

In particular, through efficient linkage with the 'Smart Toy Biz Center,' the largest prototype production hub in the province that began full-scale operation in May, the plan is to maximize budget efficiency and produce tangible results such as fostering promising companies.

The leading institution, Gangwon Promotion Agency, will collaborate with various educational institutions including universities located in the province to operate internship (supporters) programs annually to nurture professional personnel, and will also hold makerthon competitions and startup idea contests.

Yang Won-mo, Director of the Advanced Industry Bureau of the province, said, "Gangwon Maker Space will serve as the largest hub for producing high value-added advanced ICT convergence products and will support the revitalization of the regional economy, including the creation of new jobs."
