[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] On the 28th, Lee Su-jin of the Democratic Party of Korea and Yang Yi-won-young, an independent lawmaker, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office urging the cessation of politicizing the power supply crisis.

The lawmakers stated that some conservative media and opposition lawmakers are spreading the power crisis theory as an attack on the nuclear phase-out policy, taking advantage of the recent increase in power consumption due to the heatwave.

According to the Power Statistics Information System, the current power supply status shows that on the 27th, when the maximum power demand reached 91.1 gigawatts (GW) this summer, the power reserve rate was 11%, with a reserve power of 9.6 gigawatts, equivalent to more than nine nuclear reactors. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Power Exchange had forecasted that the power reserve rate could drop to 4.2% in the fourth week of July, but the current reserve rate in the fourth week is around 10%, indicating that the situation is being managed more stably than initially expected.
