KT Launches Online Learning Mentoring 'Raensunna Num Campus'... First Step Toward Regional Coexistence in Education Sector
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will launch the "Ranseon Nanum Campus" in collaboration with KT to fill the learning gaps of local students deepened by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to reduce the educational disparity between Seoul and other regions.
Ranseon Nanum Campus is a non-face-to-face learning mentoring program where about 160 university students from 11 universities in Seoul provide online tutoring and career counseling to about 420 middle school students nationwide.
162 university student mentors selected from 11 universities located in Seoul will participate. The 425 middle school mentees were selected from recommendations by 29 local governments nationwide that have signed or are scheduled to sign friendship exchange agreements with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Seoul plans to provide a small activity allowance to the university students participating as mentors, aiming to expand economic activity opportunities for university students whose part-time job opportunities have decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Seoul and KT plan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in August to ensure the stable promotion of the "Ranseon Nanum Campus" project.
Kim Ui-seung, Director of Planning and Coordination, said, “I hope this Ranseon Nanum Campus project will be a small but meaningful start to reducing the educational gap between Seoul and other regions, deepened by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, through the power of the platform Seoul possesses.”
