[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Members of the 'Taeksubucha (Taxi Revival Car)' internet cafe have filed a complaint against the cafe operator, accusing him of embezzling vehicle purchase payments, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 14th, according to the police, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul is conducting an investigation into Mr. A, in his 50s, on charges of fraud.
Mr. A, who runs the Taeksubucha business, is accused of receiving vehicle payments but not delivering the cars. He also operated a sales cafe with about 19,900 members. Taeksubucha refers to used taxis converted into private cars. It is reported that people mainly use these vehicles for about 1 to 2 years due to their affordable price.
So far, there are three complainants, and the number of victims and the amount of damage are expected to increase with additional complaints. Mr. A was questioned as a suspect but is reportedly not responding to recent contact attempts. A police official stated, "We are considering a travel ban and also contemplating applying for an arrest warrant."
