[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Regional Headquarters announced on the 12th that it will create and operate a Jeju-themed space for airport users within the domestic departure area of Jeju Airport.

The Jeju Airport themed space is a unique area symbolizing Jeju's environment and nature. It was created in the domestic departure lounge through collaboration with experts in various fields such as interior design. The existing outdated lounge for the mobility-impaired was completely renovated into a space reflecting Jeju's characteristics, and an additional lounge was installed to create a space considerate of socially vulnerable groups.

Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Regional Headquarters plans to further expand the Jeju-themed spaces to international zones and other areas to strengthen its identity as a representative tourist destination airport in Korea and improve customer service.

The newly created themed spaces are located near Domestic Security Checkpoint (B), the domestic duty-free shop area, and around domestic gates 12 to 13.

A representative of Korea Airports Corporation Jeju Regional Headquarters said, “We created the Jeju-themed space to expand resting areas for the rapidly increasing number of users during the summer peak season and to offer some comfort to citizens and visitors to Jeju who have been exhausted by COVID-19. Going forward, we will continue to create spaces throughout the airport that reflect Jeju’s culture and eco-friendly elements so that airport users can reminisce about their Jeju trip and enjoy their time.”

Meanwhile, last year, the corporation created a Jeju-themed space in the domestic arrival lounge area reflecting stone culture, oreum (volcanic cones), and nature. This year, it is conducting various specialized projects suitable for Jeju’s eco-friendly image, such as a pilot project for “Creating a Clean Jeju without Disposable Cups” in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and Starbucks.
