"Opposition: Need to Further Address Anxiety Felt by Women in Their 20s"
People Power Party presidential candidate Yoon Hee-sook is recently being interviewed by Yonhap News Agency at her office in the National Assembly Members' Office Building.
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Yoon Hee-sook, a member of the People Power Party who declared her candidacy for the presidential election, revealed in a media interview on the 11th that she is a 'dolsing' (returned single) with past marriage experience. Yoon, an economist by background, has recently voiced opinions on various social issues, including criticizing Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's basic income pledge and advocating a cautious approach to the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
In an interview with Yonhap News on the same day, Yoon said, "It's not just that (the People Power Party) fails to appeal to women in their 20s, but it makes them feel hostility," adding, "Conservatives remind me of nagging, old-fashioned fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law. I think they haven't seriously considered the anxiety and unfairness felt by women in their 20s and are somewhat lacking."
She then confessed to being a 'dolsing,' saying, "I have experienced a short marriage. I have firsthand experience of what young women fear," and emphasized, "Although I have no childbirth experience, knowing something from direct experience is not the same as knowing everything. Whether one can generalize from faced situations is another matter."
She continued, "I am better at generalizing individual experiences and extracting directions," adding, "Everyone has their own experiences in life. The question that says your path is narrow-minded is itself narrow-minded."
Earlier, she drew attention by advocating a cautious approach to the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. On the 8th, Yoon proposed on her Facebook, "I do not think that abolishing the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and establishing a presidential committee will significantly change the problem," and suggested, "I propose to reorganize it into a 'Gender Equality Family Ministry' by reexamining its purpose, functions, and organization from scratch."
She added, "We will thoroughly evaluate past achievements, boldly streamline overlapping and conflicting tasks with other ministries, and faithfully support the essence of 'gender equality' beyond women, as well as youth and all forms of family support."
Meanwhile, Yoon is an economist from the Korea Development Institute (KDI). Last July, when the Democratic Party of Korea unilaterally passed the three real estate lease laws, she attracted attention with a five-minute free speech titled 'I am a tenant.' Recently, she also engaged in a debate with Governor Lee over basic income.
