Scheduled to Open in Yangyang, Gangwon in 2024
Approximately 50,677㎡ Site Near Songjeon Beach, Developed with an Investment of About 500 Billion KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] The global hotel and resort group 'Capella' announced on the 6th that it will enter the domestic market through the Yangyang Beach Resort in Gangwon.
Founded in 2004, Capella currently operates seven hotels and resorts across six countries including Singapore, China, Bali, Thailand, and Vietnam. Following the upcoming openings of Capella Sydney and Maldives in the second half of this year and next year, 'Capella Yangyang' will be the group's ninth resort.
Capella, regarded as a top-tier brand alongside Aman and One&Only, is a member of 'The Leading Hotels of the World,' a title awarded to the finest luxury hotels. The Capella Hotel Group stated that Korea is an attractive location with high economic, cultural, and intellectual standards, equipped with both internal and external resources, and confirmed its market entry with the goal of introducing a new paradigm to the domestic resort culture.
Capella explained that it will showcase its first property in Yangyang, where natural environments coexist with Korea’s unique traditions and history, as well as a new culture created by creators from various fields gathered around 'surfing.' They considered the easy access from the metropolitan area via the Seoul-Yangyang Expressway and the upcoming East-West high-speed railway, as well as the presence of Yangyang International Airport, which is advantageous for attracting foreign tourists.
Scheduled to be developed in 2024 on a 50,677㎡ site near Songjeon Beach on the east coast of Gangwon with an investment of about 500 billion KRW, 'Capella Yangyang' will be the only white beach resort in Korea, with the unique feature that guests can walk barefoot between their rooms and the sea. All rooms will have ocean views and suites, with approximately 252 rooms available.
Nicholas Matthew Clayton, CEO of Capella Hotel Group, said, "We will collaborate with developers who possess the best manpower well-versed in Korea’s resort industry, culture, and consumer tendencies to provide not only domestic consumers but also visitors to Korea with a resort culture experience on a different level." He added, "We plan to present refined design, customer-centered hospitality services, and carefully selected programs that allow guests to experience diverse natural heritage and culture."
Lee Yong-jae, CEO of Ayum, who is in charge of overall development of 'Capella Yangyang' in partnership with Capella Hotel Group, said, "We will provide world-class, delicate hospitality services and resort experiences that domestic customers could never have imagined together with Capella Hotel Group."
Meanwhile, Capella plans to open the Capella Private Club in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, by the end of this year for members of 'Capella Yangyang.'
