The First Honor Society Member in Hampyeong in 10 Years Emerges

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] An Honor Society member has been born in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do for the first time in 10 years.

The Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea (President Dong-il Noh, Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae) announced on the 25th that Lee Heung-jae, CEO of Donggeon General Construction Co., Ltd., and Kim Seong-mo, Chairman of Korea Styrofoam Co., Ltd., have joined the Honor Society, a group of high-value donors who have donated more than 100 million KRW.

CEO Lee and Chairman Kim, alumni of Sonbul Elementary School, were registered as Hampyeong No.1 (Jeonnam No.114) and Hampyeong No.2 (Jeonnam No.115), respectively. The signing ceremony was attended by Dong-il Noh, President of Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae, Lee Sang-ik, Mayor of Hampyeong-gun, and other officials, adding prestige to the event.

The donated funds will be used for welfare projects for the underprivileged in Hampyeong-gun.

CEO Lee Heung-jae established Donggeon General Construction Co., Ltd., a company specializing in rental apartments, in 1991 and specializes in constructing rental housing in areas such as Daejeon.

He donates annually to the Angel’s Touch in Dong-gu, Daejeon, supports the renovation of old houses for national veterans, established the Guiheung Scholarship Foundation in Sonbul-myeon by donating his private assets, and annually provides scholarships and childbirth incentives to graduates of Sonbul Elementary School.

With the belief that “a company must take responsibility not only for profit-seeking but also for social contribution,” he is doing his best to help the local community together with his employees.

CEO Lee said, “I am pleased to join with a friend I respect,” and added, “Through today’s membership, I will devote myself more to helping neighbors and live with more consideration.”

Chairman Kim has been leading one of Honam’s representative companies, managing over 100 companies including Korea Styrofoam Co., Ltd., Korea Panel Co., Ltd., Daeyang Styrofoam Co., Ltd., and Green Panel Co., Ltd. since founding Korea Styrofoam in 1981.

Until 2017, he served as the president of the Hampyeong-gun Prosperity Association, taking the lead in the county’s development and harmony. He has donated to the Jeonnam National University Global Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, supported living and medical expenses for crisis households through the Jeonnam Community Chest Hampyeong-gun Community Security Council, contributed funds for health and welfare projects for the elderly in Hampyeong, and provided scholarships for talented students in rural areas.

Chairman Kim said, “The medical environment for elderly people in my hometown, childbirth and childcare environment, multicultural families, disabled people, and out-of-school youth are all facing difficulties,” adding, “I want to play a pioneering role in supporting welfare blind spots that do not receive practical welfare benefits.”

Dong-il Noh, President of Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae, said, “There had been no Honor Society members in Hampyeong-gun until now, so I am very pleased that two people joined at the same time,” and added, “We will do our best to widely publicize the noble sharing cases of the two who bore beautiful friendship through sharing so that it can spread to other cities and counties.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae has been discovering high-value donors together with 22 cities and counties since the first Honor Society membership in 2011. Currently, Honor Society members are participating in the spread of the noblesse oblige sharing culture in 19 cities and counties. However, three cities and counties (Goheung-gun, Boseong-gun, Jindo-gun) have yet to produce Honor Society members.

The Honor Society is a “personal high-value donor club” that allows membership by donating more than 100 million KRW or pledging to donate 100 million KRW within five years. For membership consultation, inquiries can be made through the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea.
