[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Seo Chun-soo, the mayor of Hamyang during the 7th local government term, has tirelessly worked on-site over the past three years, envisioning Hamyang’s 100-year future.

Under the administrative slogan "Good Morning Jirisan, Hamyang," he carried out administration based on five major policies: on-site administration for residents, growth-oriented agriculture, customized welfare, balanced development, and income tourism.

In response to rapidly changing circumstances, he established tourism infrastructure to create future sources of income and has been fulfilling an important milestone role in the mutual development of urban and rural areas nationwide.

Additionally, through ties with domestic and international international cities, he elevated the county’s status, secured corporate investments, and built a stable income base through future agricultural strategies, steadily establishing future growth engines.

Looking back on the path taken over the past three years,

the greatest achievement is the "2021 Hamyang Wild Ginseng Anti-Aging Expo." The expo, an international event approved by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, will be held from September 10 to October 10 under the theme "Millennium Wild Ginseng, Dream of Life Extension" at Sangnim Park and Daebongsan Recreation Valley.

In the tourism sector, there is a maple forest trail project around the Jirisan gateway Odorae area, and Daebongsan Recreation Valley has upgraded the county’s tourism resources with a monorail and zipline, which surpassed 20,000 users within just one month.

In the industrial sector, 30,000㎡ of the Handeul Agricultural Promotion Area was deregulated, and attracting the "Wild Ginseng Specialized Industry Promotion Center" was also a major achievement. The attraction of Coupang’s Hamyang logistics center is also generating high expectations.

In the welfare sector, the welfare budget for residents reached approximately 100.921 billion KRW in 2021, an increase of 47.76% compared to 2019.

In the COVID-19 quarantine sector, proactive measures over one year and five months were devoted to overcoming the crisis, and emergency disaster basic income was separately supported for residents.

The icons representing Mayor Seo are "residents," "on-site," and "communication." Since taking office, he has continuously engaged in on-site communication with residents to identify the most necessary directions for them and implemented on-site communication administration accordingly.

In agricultural policy, efforts include fostering new income crops, implementing quality certification for agricultural specialties, operating a simplified agricultural product auction market, and restoring the Machon terraced rice paddies to create added value and stabilize income in rural areas.

Finally, to raise the happiness index of residents, the "Rural Utopia" project, a small but significant start, was celebrated on February 27 with the "Hamyang Residential Platform Leading Project Move-in Ceremony," attended by former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and other government officials who visited Hamyang.

The county plans to further expand the Rural Utopia project to lead balanced urban-rural development in South Korea.

Mayor Seo said, "The remaining year to draw the big picture for the next 100 years based on the foundation built so far may be more difficult and challenging," adding, "But with our residents and those from Hamyang living elsewhere, I believe we will create 'Good Morning Jirisan, Hamyang' even in the face of tough challenges."

He continued, "Building on past experiences, I will do my best for a better tomorrow in Hamyang during the remaining year," and pledged, "I will create a foundation where Hamyang is a source of pride and self-esteem for our residents and a place where our descendants can live proudly as Hamyang people."
