[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Kia announced on the 24th that it has launched the facelift model of the mid-size sedan K5, called 'The 2022 K5.' Since the launch of the 3rd generation model in March 2019, the K5 has sold 112,581 units excluding commercial use, and just last year alone, it sold 79,072 units, becoming the top-selling model in the mid-size sedan market.
The 2022 K5 applies Kia's new emblem and enhances product appeal by standardizing various features preferred by the main customer base across trims such as Trendy, Prestige, Noblesse, and Signature, while minimizing price increases.
In particular, the hybrid model, which has a dedicated design, has strengthened its bold and dynamic style. The previously applied horizontal pattern tiger nose radiator grille has been changed to a 'shark tooth' pattern reminiscent of shark teeth. While inheriting the existing shark skin grille design concept, the premium feel has been enhanced. The grille material also features black high-gloss paint, adding a strong impression.
Convenience features that were not previously available have been added as standard to the Trendy and Prestige trims. The base Trendy trim now includes a leather and heated steering wheel, and the Prestige trim standardizes the front parking distance warning system. The Noblesse and Signature trims have added the smartphone wireless charging function, which was previously an optional feature, as standard.
The prices for the 2022 K5 are as follows: for the 2.0 gasoline model, Trendy is 23.81 million KRW, Prestige 26.31 million KRW, Noblesse 28.22 million KRW, and Signature 30.92 million KRW; for the 1.6 gasoline turbo model, Trendy is 24.59 million KRW, Prestige 27.49 million KRW, Noblesse 29.40 million KRW, and Signature 31.71 million KRW. Additionally, the 2.0 hybrid model is priced at Trendy 27.77 million KRW, Prestige 29.75 million KRW, Noblesse 31.68 million KRW, and Signature 33.84 million KRW; the 2.0 LPI model is Prestige 26.75 million KRW, Noblesse 29.40 million KRW, and Signature 30.87 million KRW (based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax and reflecting hybrid tax benefits).
A Kia official stated, "The 2022 K5 has strengthened its product appeal by actively reflecting customer opinions and preferences, so we expect it to provide greater satisfaction to customers," adding, "We will continue to lead the market by offering product appeal and various purchase benefits befitting the number one mid-size sedan brand."
Meanwhile, Kia is also offering various purchase benefits with the launch of The 2022 K5. These include the 2030 Start Plan, which significantly lowers monthly payments to reduce the purchasing burden on younger customers, and the M Installment Plan, which offers a special interest rate as low as 2.2% over 36 months when the down payment is made with a Hyundai Card, along with various other financial support programs and events.
