Limited Edition 'McCol Retro Edition' Released, Capturing Nostalgic and Retro Vibes

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seung-jin] Makcol, Korea's first barley carbonated drink, has unveiled a limited edition package specially produced with a retro feel.

Ilhwa announced on the 23rd that it will release the 'Makcol Retro Edition,' which faithfully reproduces Makcol's packaging from the 1980s to 1990s.

This limited edition faithfully recreates Makcol's early design, evoking nostalgia and memories for the middle-aged and older generations, while delivering a new newtro (new + retro) sentiment to the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), Ilhwa expects.

The package is made of dark brown glass bottles, which are rarely seen these days, and features Makcol's old logo and typography on the front to evoke the sensibility of the 1980s. After drinking, the remaining bottles can be reused as household ornaments or vases, adding a small element of fun. The packaging box also uses Makcol's representative colors of blue and red to enhance the retro atmosphere.

The Makcol Retro limited edition consists of two 365ml glass bottles and is scheduled to be sold in a limited quantity of 9,000 units at Emart stores nationwide from mid-June.

An Ilhwa official said, "We have released this special limited edition by reviving the 1980s package design so that people can once again feel the memories shared with Makcol," adding, "We plan to introduce various goods and package marketing that young consumers will prefer, as well as existing loyal customers, by utilizing the brand heritage that only long-established brands can have."

Meanwhile, Makcol is Korea's first barley carbonated drink made using organic hull barley from Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do. Recently, it appointed broadcaster Kim Dong-hyun as its exclusive model and is running a TVCF with the slogan, "It's not beer, it's Makcol!"
