Changwon City Launches 'Think Tank' to Establish Ssireum Sacred Site

Changwon City Ssireum Promotion Council Appointment Ceremony Held

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City, Gyeongnam, held an appointment ceremony on the 22nd for the Changwon City Ssireum Promotion Council, which will serve as a think tank for creating 'Ssireum Sanctuary, Changwon.'

The Changwon City Ssireum Promotion Council will discuss and advise on the overall promotion of Changwon Ssireum.

At the appointment ceremony, the city discussed future directions and important matters not to be overlooked since announcing the plan to create 'Ssireum Sanctuary, Changwon' in February last year.

Lee Seungsam, former Secretary General of the Korea Ssireum Association, was unanimously appointed as vice chairman, representing the mayor of Changwon City, the ex officio chairman.

In his acceptance speech, Lee Seungsam said, "My name has always been closely associated with Ssireum," adding, "Now, I will strive to restore the reputation of my hometown Changwon (Masan) as the birthplace of Ssireum and further establish it as the sanctuary of Ssireum in Korea."

Mayor Heo Seongmu said, "I ask for your wisdom and cooperation so that Changwon City can firmly establish itself as the true sanctuary of Ssireum in Korea and that Ssireum can become a representative sports and cultural asset of the region."
