‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Local Governments-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project’ On-Site Meeting Successfully Held

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The on-site visit meeting for the Gwangju-Jeonnam Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project (RIS), chaired by Ando Geol, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was successfully held on the 16th at the Energy Cluster Regional Innovation-Enterprise Support Center of Dongshin University in the Bitgaram Innovation City of Gwangju-Jeonnam.


According to Dongshin University on the 17th, the meeting was attended by Vice Minister Ando Geol, Dongshin University President Choi Il, Jeollanam-do Political Deputy Governor Yoon Byungtae, Ministry of Education Higher Education Policy Director Choi Eunok, Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Deputy Superintendent Ryu Hyesook, Gwangju-Jeonnam Platform General Center Director Kim Youngsun, and TDl Co., Ltd. CEO Kim Yushin, among other industry, academia, research, and government officials, who engaged in in-depth discussions on the development plans for the region’s future innovative industries.


Shin Ikhyun, Higher Education Policy Officer of the Ministry of Education, presented on “Plans for Fostering Local Talent through Local Government-University Linkage and Cooperation,” Professor Cho Seongjun of Chonnam National University presented on “Current Status of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Innovation Platform,” and Professor Lee Donghui of Dongshin University presented on “Cases of Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Startup Collaboration,” drawing significant attention.


The attendees also visited the Enterprise Support Center within the Dongshin University Energy Cluster, where they were introduced to prototypes of local startups benefiting from the Regional Innovation Platform Project, as well as student internships and research linked with enterprises, and encouraged the stakeholders.


The Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project (RIS) is an innovative initiative where universities and local governments collaborate to cultivate future regional industries and talent.


Efforts are underway to improve residential conditions and implement customized youth policies so that local young people can grow into convergent talents leading innovation projects.


The Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Innovation Project involves 15 universities and 32 innovation institutions within the region, including Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province, with a total investment of 68.4 billion KRW this year, comprising 48 billion KRW in national funds and 20.4 billion KRW in local funds.
