Damyang-gun Shares Warmth with Potatoes Harvested from Senior Job Project

[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] As the season for harvesting new potatoes arrives, potatoes carefully cultivated throughout Damyang-gun are being harvested and shared, warming the local community.

According to the county on the 17th, Bongsan-myeon in Damyang harvested 1,000 kg of potatoes grown through the senior job project on the 16th and delivered them to 100 underprivileged households and local children's centers.

The potatoes were lovingly grown by seniors participating in the job project since March. One senior, who has been involved in the project for two years, said, "Working in the garden gives me vitality in life, and I also feel the joy of sharing the crops I harvest with my neighbors."

Go Jinseong, head of Bongsan-myeon, said, "I thank the seniors in the job project who brought small vitality to the daily lives of our residents exhausted by the hot weather and COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to carry out various sharing activities to create a warm and caring local community."

On the same day, Daejeon-myeon also delivered about 80 boxes of early summer potatoes harvested through the senior job project to 33 local senior centers, nursing homes, and related organizations.

Every year, Daejeon-myeon practices warm sharing by growing potatoes and napa cabbages through the senior job project and delivering them to neighbors in need.

Je Seonghyun, head of Daejeon-myeon, said, "I thank the seniors who harvested potatoes and practiced sharing despite the hot weather," and added, "We will continue to take the lead in sharing and volunteering to foster a village atmosphere where neighbors live together."
