[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] A Korean man in his 40s has been sentenced to 46 years in prison for detaining and sexually assaulting a Korean woman in her 20s for two months in Istanbul, Turkey, after meeting her online and traveling together.

According to the Turkish daily newspaper Daily Sabah on the 15th (local time), the Istanbul prosecutor demanded the maximum sentence of 46 years in prison for Mr. A (44), who was tried on seven charges including torture and sexual assault.

Mr. A is accused of sexually torturing and assaulting Ms. B (22) from February to March. According to the indictment, Mr. A met Ms. B online for the first time and traveled to Istanbul together, then rented an apartment in the ?mraniye district where they lived together.

The Istanbul prosecutor stated that Mr. A destroyed Ms. B’s cellphone and computer, forcibly sexually assaulted her, and filmed the act, threatening to upload the video to a pornographic website if she tried to leave.

Additionally, Mr. A is accused of repeatedly hitting Ms. B with a perfume bottle, cellphone, and broken computer, causing bone fractures. He also confined Ms. B in the apartment, withheld food, and inflicted burns on her body with a cigarette lighter.

The prosecutor said that this abuse and harassment lasted for about two months.

During the investigation, Mr. A denied all charges, claiming that the sexual acts were consensual and that the behaviors identified as torture were part of a "sexual fantasy role-play."

Daily Sabah reported that the trial schedule for Mr. A, who was arrested in March, has not yet been set.
