[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy inspected the preparation status for stable summer power supply management on the 15th, together with Korea Electric Power Corporation, five power generation companies, and other related power organizations in anticipation of increased electricity demand during the summer season.
At the meeting, Ju Youngjun, Director of the Energy Resources Office, stated, "This summer is expected to be hotter than usual, and due to the recent domestic economic recovery and increased industrial production, electricity demand is anticipated to be higher than last year," adding, "related power organizations must conduct meticulous prior preparations and management to prevent any disruptions in power supply."
Director Ju instructed related power organizations to secure all available additional reserve resources, including proactive power generation and system equipment inspections, mandatory electricity demand reductions, and changes in charging and discharging times of solar-linked Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to actively implement demand management, such as energy-saving campaigns, alongside efforts to ensure stable power supply. On the 1st of next month, the government will announce the "Summer Power Supply Outlook and Measures" at the National Affairs Inspection and Coordination Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, and will operate a "Comprehensive Supply and Demand Situation Room" during the power supply management period.
