[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyeon-jin] On the 11th (local time), a bus traveling on a highway in southwestern Pakistan overturned and fell into a gorge, resulting in more than 20 deaths and about 50 injuries, according to AP News and others.
According to reports, in the early morning near Baduk Hill in the Khuzdar district of Balochistan province, a bus carrying pilgrims was speeding and rolled down into a gorge. Local police stated that the bus lost balance while making a sharp turn.
The pilgrims were returning to southern Sindh province after visiting the Sufi religious site in Thatta. The bus was operating over capacity, and some passengers were riding on the roof. Most of the fatalities were passengers on the roof, and among the injured were children and women.
Authorities deployed military personnel and rescue teams to the scene and transported the injured to hospitals.
AP reported that Pakistan frequently experiences major traffic accidents due to poor road conditions and frequent traffic violations. Last month, a bus overturned in Sukkur city in the south, resulting in 13 deaths and 29 injuries.
