Asia Future Design Institute Promotes Digital Archiving for Preservation and Transmission of Hakchum Dance

Universities Step Up to Preserve 'Hakchum'... Dongseo University Partners with Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society On the 4th, the Asia Future Design Research Institute of Dongseo University and the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society signed a business agreement to promote exchange.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University has embarked on a project to preserve and pass down ‘Dongnae Hakchum,’ a traditional dance of the Dongnae region, using digital archiving technologies.


On the 4th, the Asia Future Design Institute of Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society at the Asia Future Design Institute meeting room on the 2nd floor of Dongseo University’s New Millennium Building to strengthen mutual ties and promote exchange and development.


The signing ceremony was attended by Jang Ju-young, director of the Asia Future Design Institute at Dongseo University, Lee Seong-hoon, president of the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society, professors in related fields, and executives of the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society.


The agreement includes ▶ mutual cooperation and support for education and archiving to preserve and pass down Dongnae Hakchum ▶ collaboration in design research to revitalize Dongnae Hakchum as a regional cultural heritage and joint discovery of cultural content projects ▶ support for design-based recreation through modern reinterpretation of Dongnae Hakchum and cooperation in providing resources for this purpose.


The Asia Future Design Institute of Dongseo University plans to conduct research and develop events in cooperation with the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society to widely promote and revitalize the region’s unique cultural heritage among citizens.


In the era of Ontact, they will continuously develop modern reinterpretations of Dongnae Hakchum suited to the online environment and collaborations with digital media content.


Jang Ju-young, director of the Asia Future Design Institute, said, “I hope this will be an opportunity to increase students’ interest and understanding of Dongnae Hakchum, a unique local culture of Busan,” adding, “Through various collaborations with the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society, I hope to contribute to the preservation and revitalization of local cultural heritage and the transmission and expansion of Busan’s regional culture.”


Lee Seong-hoon, president of the Dongnae Hakchum Preservation Society, said, “The MOU with Dongseo University, a design-specialized university, is very meaningful. I hope it becomes an opportunity for the regional cultural heritage of Dongnae Hakchum to be revitalized through content such as design, film, and video.”


He also said, “I hope students take this opportunity to apply what they have learned at school directly to society as a valuable foundation.”
