[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Recently, as cluster infections of COVID-19 through air conditioner airflow have occurred, concerns about using air conditioners during the summer have increased, and air conditioner filter masks made from functional fibers are gaining attention.

Home fabric specialist company Popore (CEO Kwon Taehyuk) announced on the 29th that it has launched an air conditioner filter mask utilizing CAZ (copper ion composite fiber, hereafter CAZ).

According to Popore, the newly released air conditioner filter mask is a product that can be easily attached by covering the existing air conditioner dust filter like putting on a mask. It is made from the composite material CAZ developed by medical company Medifiber.

CAZ is a fiber that inactivates viruses by more than 99.9% within 5 minutes, and the company explained that when using the air conditioner filter mask, the virus decreases by 99% within about 30 minutes in a sealed indoor space.

Previously, CAZ underwent tests by certification bodies such as the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), Colorado State University in the United States, and the Nara Prefectural Medical University Research Institute in Japan, proving its antibacterial and antiviral functions.

Regarding consumer concerns about the safety of antibacterial and antiviral products, similar to the past humidifier disinfectant incident, Popore emphasized not only performance but also safety for the human body.

The CAZ air conditioner filter mask is explained to be safe for the human body by ion-bonding copper ions to polymer fibers rather than using chemical additives.

Kwon Taehyuk, CEO of Popore, said, “Many consumers worry about using air conditioners in enclosed spaces as the heat intensifies in summer. The air conditioner filter mask made with CAZ can be expected to prevent indoor infections by eliminating viruses in indoor air through easy attachment that does not interfere with air conditioner operation.”

Meanwhile, Popore is conducting crowdfunding for the CAZ air conditioner filter mask on the Wadiz platform until the 14th of next month.
