Gwangju Shinsegae 'Butterful&Creamorous' Bakery Gains Popularity

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The bakery Butterful&Creamorous, which is gaining phenomenal popularity in Apgujeong, Seoul, has also opened in Gwangju and is attracting attention.


Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) announced on the 24th that the Butterful&Creamorous bakery brand, which settled in the food hall on the basement first floor of the main building on the 21st of last month, is gaining popularity.


The somewhat unfamiliar name Butterful&Creamorous is a bakery brand that opened in 2019 in Apgujeong Rodeo, creating a sensation by presenting an interior design reminiscent of Paris and stylish bakery items and packaging.


The name is a playful word derived from Beautiful&Glamorous, meaning a place abundant and overflowing with butter and cream.


Kim Hyun-duk, the founder and creative director of Butterful&Creamorous, said the brand was created out of curiosity and the question, "What kind of bread would be made if only the finest butter, finest flour, and finest fresh cream were used?"


The core of Butterful&Creamorous bread is European-style natural fermentation. Naturally made levain (sourdough starter) is mixed with a pre-ferment (poolish) made a day in advance, and the use of kneading machines is minimized. Skilled pastry chefs fold the dough by hand and ferment it slowly, which is a distinctive feature.


Despite the severe situation due to COVID-19 last year, the Apgujeong Rodeo flagship store saw an increase in sales, demonstrating its high popularity.


The signature menu items of Butterful&Creamorous include croissants and cheesecakes. In particular, the Basque cheesecake (29,000 KRW) contains no flour at all and boasts a dense and rich texture made only with cream cheese and fresh cream.

The center of the cake has a creamy part, making it difficult to stop eating once you start, offering an addictive taste.


The truffle baguette (9,000 KRW) blends premium butter and truffle, and when eaten, you can enjoy the harmonious taste of soft truffle butter and crispy squid ink baguette.
