Geumcheon-gu Selected for Ministry of Land's 'Senior Welfare Housing Public Project'... Secures 37% of Project Cost from National Funds, Construction Starts in 2021, Completion Targeted for 2023
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Senior Welfare Housing Public Contest,’ giving momentum to the promotion of the ‘Seoul Doksan Jugong Complex 13 Welfare Facility and Group Home Complex Construction Project.’
The selected site for this contest is the fitness center site next to the Han-nae Welfare Center in Doksan 1-dong branch area, where Geumcheon-gu and LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation) are jointly promoting the construction of a medical, welfare, and residential complex facility.
The district plans to invest 7.28 billion KRW of district funds to build a complex facility for public medical services with a total floor area of 2,314㎡, consisting of one basement floor and seven above-ground floors.
In this contest, after the submission of proposals for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Senior Welfare Housing Public Contest at the end of March, and through proposal evaluation and on-site inspections in April, a total of 11 local governments nationwide were finally selected, with Geumcheon-gu being the only one selected in Seoul.
Through this contest, the district secured 37% of the project cost as national funds and plans to accelerate the project with the goal of starting construction in the second half of 2021 and completing it in 2023.
Meanwhile, senior welfare housing is a customized public rental housing complex that installs senior-friendly social welfare facilities on the lower floors and rental housing on the upper floors, allowing low-income elderly people to conveniently use welfare services in their residential area.
The interior of the residential facilities will be built as senior-friendly with barrier-free design applied, including safety handrails, removal of thresholds, and height-adjustable washbasins for the convenience of the elderly.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Senior welfare housing will be an opportunity to solve the community’s concerns about housing and care for the increasing elderly population due to aging and to provide high-quality welfare services,” adding, “With this contest selection, it is expected that not only will the district budget be saved, but the project promotion will also accelerate.”
