‘Eoreushin Eoullim Yeonghwa Naduri’ Comforting Seniors Weary from COVID-19

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) brought great joy to the elderly, whose minds and bodies have been exhausted by COVID-19, with the ‘Senior Citizens’ Harmony Movie Outing’ prepared for them.

The ‘Senior Citizens’ Harmony Movie Outing’ is being conducted through a collaboration between Seongbuk-gu, the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, and Jeongneung Comprehensive Social Welfare Center.

As social distancing continues due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, this event was organized to support the local elderly who have been diligently following quarantine guidelines more than anyone else, in celebration of Family Month in May and the 49th Parents’ Day.

From the 11th to the 13th, a total of 138 people, including 94 elderly participants and 44 care workers, will watch the movie Minari.

The venue is Arirang Cine Center, Theater 1. To comply with social distancing quarantine rules, the event is held in three sessions with about 50 people each in a space of approximately 200 seats.

A Seongbuk-gu official stated, “Care workers and dedicated social workers from Jeongneung Comprehensive Social Welfare Center are carefully assisting the elderly during the viewing, and the joy of the elderly from this long-awaited cultural activity is so great that it cannot be hidden even behind their masks.”

On the 11th, Jeong** (Jeongneung 2, 75), an elderly participant, said, “I was feeling depressed and struggling because of COVID-19, but watching the movie and meeting friends after a long time has kept me smiling continuously. I am truly grateful to those who provided this opportunity.”

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “During these difficult times of COVID-19, I am very happy to be able to offer some support and joy to the elderly in our community who have been exemplary in following quarantine guidelines. As we live with COVID-19, we will continue to create such opportunities to relieve pandemic fatigue and ensure that vaccination proceeds smoothly until herd immunity is achieved.”
