Samneung 'Jageun Yeonmot' and Gwangneung 'Bokjaginamu' Forest Trail Open to Public for the First Time
The Cultural Heritage Administration's Royal Tombs and Historic Sites Headquarters announced on the 12th that it will open eleven forest trails at Joseon royal tombs for the spring season. These include Donggureung in Guri, Gwangneung and Sareung in Namyangju, Taereung, Gangneung, and Uireung in Seoul, Yungneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong, Samneung and Jangneung in Paju, and Yeongneung (英陵) and Yeongneung (寧陵) in Yeoju. They will be open to the general public from the 16th of this month until the 30th of next month. Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and they are closed on Mondays.
The Joseon royal tomb forest trails offer various rest areas. These include the 'Children's Yard (Taereung and Gangneung)' equipped with shade shelters and books, the 'Alnus Forest Trail and Rest Area (Heolleung and Inneung)' which is an ecological preservation area for alder trees, the 'Wildflower Yard (Yungneung and Geonneung)' adorned with traditional wildflowers, and the 'Dureumgil Rest Area (Yeongneung and Yeongneung)' where you can get a panoramic view of the Namhan River Yeoju Weir. A headquarters official explained, "You can enjoy forest bathing with phytoncides and boost your physical and mental immunity."
The 'Small Pond' forest trail at Samneung in Paju, the 'Old Pine' forest trails at Taereung and Gangneung in Seoul, and the 'Bokjaginamu Tree' forest trail at Gwangneung in Namyangju are spaces being opened for the first time this season. However, the 'Bokjaginamu Tree' forest trail will be open from the 1st of next month due to an extension of maintenance work.
The Royal Tombs and Historic Sites Headquarters is conducting various programs to coincide with the opening. These include 'Forest Trail Walk and Rest (Donggureung and Sareung)' and 'Forest Playground with History at Taereung and Gangneung.' They are also maintaining other trails aiming for opening in the second half of the year, such as the Donggureung Traditional Landscaping Learning Center, the Gwanghaegun Tomb Forest Trail in Namyangju, the Changneung Forest Trail in Seooreung, Goyang, and the Ecological Forest Trail at Jangneung in Paju.
