[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, held the Chun-gi Seokjeon Daeje (Spring Memorial Ceremony) on the 11th at Samga Hyanggyo to mark the year 2572 of Gonggi (Confucian calendar).
At the event, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), thorough disinfection inside the Hyanggyo and placement of hand sanitizers were implemented, and all attendees strictly followed quarantine guidelines. Only the minimum essential personnel, including Samheon-gwan and Jipsa, attended the ceremony.
The first officiant (Chohun-gwan) was Mun Jun-hee, the Hapcheon County Governor; the second officiant (Ahun-gwan) was Jeong Soo-young from the Confucian scholars; and the third officiant (Jonghun-gwan) was Heo Kwang-young, also from the Confucian scholars.
The Seokjeon Daeje is a Confucian ritual ceremony held annually according to Confucian tradition to honor Confucius and other Confucian sages and saints, aiming to inherit their spirit and remind the citizens of the importance of etiquette.
Besides the Chun-gi and Chu-gi Seokjeon Daeje, the Hyanggyo conducts various educational programs such as etiquette education, character education, loyalty and filial piety education, and classical Chinese education. It also carries out traditional cultural activities like classical poetry contests and reenactments of the Giro-myeon, fulfilling many roles to preserve traditional culture.
