Development and Operation of Convergent Curriculum for Training Core Talent in the Biohealth Field

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dong-Eui University (President Han Su-hwan) has been included in the ‘Digital New Technology Talent Nurturing Innovation Shared University’ project involving seven domestic universities and will lead the biohealth business.
Dong-Eui University announced on the 8th that a consortium of seven universities, including Dankook University as the lead university, Sangmyung University, Hongik University, Daejeon University, Woosong University, and Wonkwang Health Science University, was selected in the ‘Biohealth Field’ of the Digital Innovation Shared University project announced by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea on May 3.
The Digital Innovation Shared University project is a new ‘Korean New Deal’ project aimed at nurturing 100,000 core talents in new technology fields at the national level over the next six years (2021?2026) by establishing a shared university system in eight fields: artificial intelligence, big data, next-generation semiconductors, future automobiles, biohealth, immersive media, intelligent robots, and new energy industries.
According to the Ministry of Education, after the appeal period (May 3?May 12), eight consortia will be finally selected and receive a 2021 budget of 81.6 billion KRW (10.2 billion KRW per consortium) to begin joint development and operation of curricula.
In this project, 41 consortia applied, and 46 universities across eight consortia were selected. In the southeastern region, Dong-Eui University, Gyeongsang National University, Pukyong National University, Pusan National University, and Gyeongnam Information University were included.
Han Su-hwan, president of Dong-Eui University, evaluated, “We have secured a leading opportunity to pilot the sharing concept, which is presented as the development direction of future society, in university education and to spread its achievements and positive effects.”
Dong-Eui University is participating in this project with Professor Jeong Kyung-tae of the Department of Clinical Pathology as the person in charge, involving medical health and software-related departments to nurture talents in biohealthcare digital new technologies (Design Healthcare, Device Healthcare, Data Healthcare).
Students who wish to take courses in new technology fields can freely enroll in level- and field-specific curricula regardless of their major or affiliation.
Departments participating include Nursing, Clinical Pathology, Dental Hygiene, Radiology, Medical Management, Physical Therapy, Childcare and Family Counseling, Food and Nutrition, Industrial Convergence Systems Engineering, Creative Software Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Communication Engineering, Digital Content Game Engineering, and Software Convergence.
Prior to this project, on April 1, seven universities including Dong-Eui University, Dankook University, Daejeon University, Sangmyung University, Woosong University, Wonkwang Health Science University, and Hongik University signed a memorandum of understanding at Dankook University Cheonan Campus to establish the ‘Digital New Technology Talent Nurturing Innovation Shared University Biohealth Field Consortium.’
The participating universities will cooperate in ▲ expanding students’ course selection rights in new technology fields ▲ mutual opening of academic systems among partner institutions ▲ securing faculty and participating in new technology curriculum development ▲ joint use of human and material resources related to new technology education.
