Practicing Carbon Neutrality with Eco-Friendly Lunchboxes from National Parks for Our Family
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Baegam Office of Naejangsan National Park under the Korea National Park Service announced on the 6th that it will hold an eco-friendly "Lunchbox Day" event at the national park for two days on May 8th and 9th in celebration of Family Month in May.
The eco-friendly lunchbox service at national parks is a visitor service provided by the Korea National Park Service since 2018. It aims to relieve visitors from the inconvenience of preparing lunchboxes, reduce disposable products within the national parks, and connect to income generation for local communities.
The Baegam eco-friendly lunchbox at Naejangsan National Park is composed of menus using local foods from the region. Orders can be placed via KakaoTalk through "Baegam Nae Dosirak-eul Butakhae" by 3 PM the day before the hike. Visitors can pick up and return the lunchboxes at the trailhead visitor centers (Baegam Visitor Center, Namchang Visitor Center).
The eco-friendly "Lunchbox Day" event at the national park mainly focuses on relieving visitors' inconvenience in preparing lunchboxes, promoting plastic reduction within the national park, and increasing income for local communities. It is planned to be held for family groups visiting Baegamsan and Ipamsan in Naejangsan National Park.
The Baegam Tteokgalbi lunchbox includes nutritious dishes such as freshly harvested rice with black rice, handmade tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), samchae (three-colored vegetables), and various vegetables, offering a healthy meal to enjoy in the national park during Family Month in May.
Additionally, to practice carbon neutrality, a family flowerpot-making kit will be provided, creating a small but joyful memory.
The lunchbox distribution locations are in the Baegam district in front of Ilgwangjeong and in the Namchang district at the Namchang Visitor Center. Eco-friendly lunchboxes will be provided free of charge to the first 15 people each day starting from 10 AM during the two days.
Baek Chung-yeol, Head of Visitor Facilities, said, "I hope families will create beautiful memories practicing carbon neutrality while enjoying healthy lunchboxes in the national park with outstanding scenery during Family Month in May." He added, "Please also participate in Lunchbox Day while complying with COVID-19 prevention guidelines."
