Gimhae City Conducts Inspection of Groundwater Usage in Multi-use Facilities for Summer Preparation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of 69 business sites that use large amounts of groundwater.

Following the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast that this summer's temperatures will be higher than usual, the city will conduct preliminary inspections of bathhouses, water play facilities, and other places with high groundwater usage during the summer season.

During this period, the city will focus on checking compliance with groundwater extraction plans and unauthorized damage to facilities. For businesses that affect or may affect water quality, usage will be suspended or measures such as water quality improvement will be taken.

Additionally, in response to the recent resurgence of COVID-19, the city will promote COVID-19 prevention and quarantine guidelines.

A Gimhae City official stated, “Indiscriminate use of groundwater causes environmental problems such as shortage of alternative water resources during droughts, ground subsidence, and water pollution,” and added, “We ask for restraint in excessive groundwater use.”

Meanwhile, as a special policy in 2021, the city invested 30 million won to install a wireless remote metering system that can monitor real-time groundwater usage at 41 wells across four golf courses in the area, and plans to expand this system starting next year.
