Chungnam-Coupang, Support for Expanding Sales Channels of Agricultural Products Produced by Young Farmers

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is supporting the expansion of sales channels for agricultural products produced by local young farmers in partnership with the e-commerce company Coupang.

The province announced on the 8th that it will promote a project this year to market agricultural products produced by local young farmers in collaboration with Coupang.

The project will be led by young farmers with an average age of 31, who are active in the smart farm complex in Dangjin City.

Through cooperation with Coupang, the province expects to promote agricultural products produced by local young farmers nationwide this year, while revitalizing the stagnant agriculture and rural areas.

In fact, prior to the full-scale project, young farmers in Dangjin have been producing tomatoes and strawberries under systematic management in smart farm greenhouses and conducted pre-order sales through Coupang.

As a result, about 1 ton of strawberries and tomatoes were sold in the first round of sales.

The province explained that this was possible by minimizing complex distribution stages, allowing high-quality agricultural products to be provided directly to consumers at affordable prices.

Since 2019, Chungnam has been pursuing strategic business cooperation with Coupang, recording sales of agricultural products worth 16.5 billion KRW last year.

A provincial official said, “The province is striving to expand marketing and sales channels for local agricultural products by establishing win-win cooperative relationships with various distribution companies. We will continue to make efforts to expand the supply of locally produced agricultural products to large distribution companies and local marts.”
