[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency announced on the 28th that starting from the 29th, it will accept health checkup applications for 60,000 essential workers, including special employment workers (SEWs) such as delivery drivers, couriers, and substitute drivers, as well as sanitation workers.
The agency stated that it will provide health checkup support to prevent occupational diseases such as death from overwork among essential workers. A budget of 3.35 billion KRW, funded by the government, will be invested. When workers undergo the checkup, the agency covers 80% of the cost, and the employer bears 20%.
Special employment workers will be primarily examined for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular conditions, while sanitation workers will be screened mainly for respiratory and musculoskeletal diseases. High-risk groups, such as those susceptible to death from overwork, will receive additional detailed health examinations. Health management will be coordinated through 23 Workers' Health Centers nationwide.
Applications will be accepted via the agency’s website starting from the 29th. For SEWs, the application should be submitted by the platform company, courier agency, or delivery service company that provides labor under the Industrial Safety and Health Act, and for sanitation workers, the employer with an employment relationship should apply.
Health checkups will be conducted at special health examination institutions designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Information on institutions by region can be found in the notices section on the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s website.
Park Duyong, Director of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, said, "Through this health checkup support project, the agency will continue to show unwavering interest and support so that essential workers performing core social functions can work more safely and healthily."
