[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Democratic Party lawmaker Ko Min-jung, who resigned from her position as spokesperson for Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party candidate for Seoul mayor, after referring to the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon’s sexual harassment victim as a 'complainant,' shared a video implying that voting for the People Power Party is equivalent to voting for greed. Some have criticized this, questioning whether her period of self-reflection has already ended.
On the 24th, just six days after stepping down as spokesperson for Park’s campaign, Ko posted a video titled "I earnestly hope and pray" lasting about 1 minute and 30 seconds on her Facebook page.
Believed to have been created by a Democratic Party supporter, the video includes phrases such as, "To you who have repeatedly voted blue in recent elections. But this time, to you who say you will not vote blue. Or to you who say you will abstain to sharply reprimand the blue. We understand your disappointment. We understand your emptiness. We understand your anger."
The video continues, "But does disliking blue and liking red mean the same thing? It does not. You are not someone suited for red. You have never once voted for greed. Please vote for the person," concluding with this message.
In response, some voices criticizing Ko emerged through online communities and related article comments. One netizen sharply asked, "Has the period of self-reflection already ended? Don’t you really consider the victim’s position?" Another criticized, "Seeing how quickly the self-reflection period ended makes me doubt whether she is truly remorseful."
Earlier, on the 18th, Ko had posted on her Facebook, "I have been constantly thinking over the past few months about how to heal the victim’s pain," and bowed her head, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing pain to the victim due to my wrong thoughts."
Ko also stated, "I earnestly hope that the victim’s daily life can be restored and that she can escape these painful days," adding, "I hope to meet her in person and convey my sincere feelings. Additionally, I will step down from my position as spokesperson for Park Young-sun’s campaign."
