Formation of a 5-Member Spokesperson Team
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, announced on the 21st that she has additionally appointed Assemblyman Kang Seon-woo and Assemblyman Lee Dong-joo as spokespersons. This comes just three days after former spokesperson Go Min-jung stepped down from the campaign spokesperson position following controversy over referring to the sexual harassment victim of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon as a 'complainant.' Accordingly, the existing Park candidate's campaign team is now composed of a total of five spokespersons, including the current spokespersons Park Sung-joon, Heo Young, and Kim Han-gyu.
Kang Seon-woo, who was Park candidate's chief of staff, said, "I have been by Park candidate's side as a shadow for the past 432 hours as chief of staff," and added, "Now, I want to become a communication window toward Seoul citizens through Park candidate's voice."
He continued, "I will express my feelings and determination upon appointment as spokesperson with the poem 'For the Tree' by poet Shin Kyung-rim," and pledged, "I will do my best until the day Park Young-sun, who will bear flowers and fruits as a strong tree for the ten million Seoul citizens, becomes the 'spring-like Seoul mayor.'"
Spokesperson Kang has served as the full-time deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea in 2016, deputy spokesperson of the Central Election Countermeasures Committee in the 2017 presidential election, and currently serves as the party's spokesperson. He has been highly evaluated for his stable and trustworthy speech and dignified commentary as a typical spokesperson with a strong exterior and soft interior.
Newly appointed small business spokesperson Lee Dong-joo said, "Park candidate and I have fought together on the front lines to overcome the crisis of small business owners caused by COVID-19, as Minister of SMEs and Startups and proportional representative for small business owners, respectively," and expressed his pleasure, saying, "I am glad to accompany the journey for another 'Great Transformation of Seoul.'"
Regarding his specific future role, he said, "As the small business spokesperson, I will actively promote small business pledges such as the small business bold loan and KS Seoul digital currency disaster relief fund, and do my best to communicate with small business owners and citizens."
Lee, former executive vice president of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business Owners, has represented the voices of the vulnerable throughout his legislative activities. In particular, after COVID-19, he drew significant attention by proposing the so-called 'Rent Stop Act,' which limits rent for businesses subject to gathering restrictions and bans, aiming to share the pain of small business owners and self-employed persons.
Park candidate said, "Both spokespersons are excellent individuals recognized for their expertise in their respective fields," and added, "I expect that they will not only inform voters about the 'Great Transformation of Seoul' but also listen to and communicate with citizens with a more humble attitude."
